Cambodia's Rice Exports Reach $280 Million in First Seven Months of 2024

Phnom Penh, 13 August 2024: Cambodia has achieved a significant milestone in its rice exports, with a total of 379,546 tonnes of milled rice exported during the first seven months of 2024, marking a 4.6 percent increase from the 362,708 tonnes exported in the same period last year, according to a report released by the Cambodia Rice Federation.

The rice exports generated $280 million in revenue, an increase from the $253 million recorded between January and July 2023.

China emerged as the largest importer of Cambodian rice, purchasing 77,204 tonnes of milled rice worth $48 million. Meanwhile, Cambodia exported 186,377 tonnes worth $144 million to 26 European countries and 77,933 tonnes valued at $53 million to seven ASEAN countries, including Timor-Leste. An additional 38,032 tonnes worth $33 million were exported to other global destinations.

The report highlighted that the exported rice varieties included fragrant rice, long-grain white rice, parboiled rice, and organic rice, with fragrant rice making up 70.5 percent of the total exports.

In addition to milled rice, Cambodia also exported 2,711,179 tonnes of paddy rice worth $784 million to neighboring countries during this period, further emphasizing the country's growing prominence in the global rice market.
